npx skill4agent add wordflowlab/novel-writer-skills getting-started-guide👋 Welcome to Novel Writer Skills!
I notice you are about to start a new novel project.
Novel Writer uses a systematic seven-step methodology to help you turn your idea into a finished manuscript.
Let me walk you through the process quickly:
Step 1: /constitution - Create your writing constitution
Step 2: /specify - Define story specifications
Step 3: /clarify - Clarify ambiguous points (5 questions)
Step 4: /plan - Develop a writing plan
Step 5: /tasks - Break down task list
Step 6: /write - Start chapter writing
Step 7: /analyze - Quality validation and analysis
Would you like to learn more about each step in detail, or start directly with Step 1?【Step 1: /constitution】
Create your writing constitution - this is the supreme principle.
- Core values (what do you want to convey?)
- Quality standards (what counts as a good chapter?)
- Forbidden content (what should not be written?)
Why it matters: All subsequent writing must comply with the constitution.
【Step 2: /specify】
Define story specifications - clarify what you want to write.
- Story concept, genre, theme
- Target audience, word count, ending
- Must-include elements (P0)
Why it matters: Specifications are technical requirements that prevent you from finding out you are off-topic halfway through writing.
【Step 3: /clarify】
The AI will ask 5 key questions to help you clarify ambiguous points.
- Targeting ambiguities in the specification
- Push you to figure out the details
Why it matters: Vague specifications = vague story.
【Step 4: /plan】
Develop a writing plan - technical solution.
- Chapter structure, rhythm design
- Key plot point timeline
- Solutions for technical difficulties
Why it matters: A detailed plan ensures smooth execution.
【Step 5: /tasks】
Break down task list - actionable steps.
- One task per chapter
- Mark status (pending/in_progress/completed)
- Track progress
Why it matters: Breaking big goals into small tasks prevents you from feeling overwhelmed.
【Step 6: /write】
Execute writing - based on the task list.
- Automatically load all context
- Follow the constitution, specifications, and plan
- Save after quality self-check
Why it matters: This is where the advantages of the seven-step methodology are fully demonstrated.
【Step 7: /analyze】
Quality validation - ensure consistency.
- Framework check (structure, rhythm)
- Content check (consistency, quality)
- Identify problems and suggest fixes
Why it matters: Regular analysis and timely adjustments avoid major rework.Recommended workflow: 1→2→3→4→5→6→7 (cycle 6-7)
Skipping steps is allowed:
- Experienced writers can skip /clarify
- Short stories can simplify /plan
Not recommended:
- Jumping directly to /write (lack of specifications and plans, easy to get messy)Simple story (50,000-word short story):
- Steps 1-5: 2-3 hours
- Steps 6-7: Writing execution, ongoing
Complex story (500,000-word full-length novel):
- Steps 1-5: 1-2 days
- Steps 6-7: Several months
Upfront investment leads to smooth progress later. If you find the specifications are incorrect:
→ Modify specification.md
→ Rerun /plan to adjust the plan
If the plan needs adjustment:
→ Modify creative-plan.md
→ Update tasks.md
This is an iterative process, not a one-time fixed setup.✓ Recommended:
- 50,000 to 100,000-word medium-short stories
- Single genre (romance/suspense/history)
- Simple plot (1-2 main storylines)
⚠️ Not recommended for first use:
- Full-length novels over 500,000 words
- Multi-genre fusion (e.g. romance + suspense + fantasy + history)
- Ultra-complex world view
Familiarize yourself with the process first, then take on complex projects.Ready? Let's start with Step 1:
Execute the command: /constitution
I will guide you to create your writing constitution.
Prepare to answer the following questions:
