Syncfusion Flutter Slider Controls
This skill groups three related Syncfusion Flutter components for value selection and range interaction: SfSlider (single value), SfRangeSlider (two-thumb range), and SfRangeSelector (range selector with child content such as charts). They share many visual and configuration features but have distinct responsibilities and integration patterns.
When to Use This Skill
Use this skill when you need to:
- Select a single numeric or date value in a compact UI (use ).
- Select a start/end range with two thumbs (use ).
- Select a range that drives another widget (chart zoom/selection) or shows child content (use ).
- Customize visual track, ticks, labels, thumbs, or tooltips across slider controls.
- Integrate slider range with charts for selection or zooming.
- Support RTL, accessibility, and keyboard navigation for slider controls.
Choosing the Right Component
Use SfSlider when:
- You need a single value picker (volume, progress percentage, timeline scrubber).
- Simplicity and small surface area are required.
Use SfRangeSlider when:
- You need the user to pick a numeric/date interval with two thumbs.
- You need drag modes that control thumb behavior (onThumb, betweenThumbs, both).
Use SfRangeSelector when:
- You need a range control that contains or controls a child widget (commonly charts).
- You require a for programmatic updates and chart integrations.
Key Differences Summary:
| Feature | SfSlider | SfRangeSlider | SfRangeSelector |
|---|
| Primary purpose | Single value | Two-thumb range | Range with child (chart) |
| Value type | | (SfRangeValues) | / |
| Child content | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ (any widget, often charts) |
| Controller support | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ () |
| Drag modes | — | ✅ (dragMode) | ✅ (dragMode) |

Quick Start Examples
SfSlider — Basic single-value slider
dart
double _value = 40.0;
SfSlider(
min: 0.0,
max: 100.0,
value: _value,
interval: 20,
showLabels: true,
onChanged: (dynamic newValue) {
setState(() { _value = newValue; });
},
)
SfRangeSlider — Basic range
dart
SfRangeValues _values = const SfRangeValues(40.0, 60.0);
SfRangeSlider(
min: 0.0,
max: 100.0,
values: _values,
interval: 20,
showLabels: true,
onChanged: (SfRangeValues newValues) {
setState(() { _values = newValues; });
},
)
SfRangeSelector — Range with chart child and controller
dart
final SfRangeValues _initial = SfRangeValues(0.3, 0.7);
RangeController _controller = RangeController(start: 0.3, end: 0.7);
SfRangeSelector(
min: 0,
max: 1,
initialValues: _initial,
controller: _controller,
child: SizedBox(height: 130, child: SfCartesianChart(...)),
)
Common Patterns
Pattern 1: Choose widget by need
- Single value →
- Range selection →
- Range controlling chart/child →
Pattern 2: Controlled vs Uncontrolled
- and are typically controlled by parent state via / and .
- can be driven via for programmatic updates and chart integrations.
